The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in line with its tradition of upholding the rule of law shall abide strictly by the ruling of the Supreme Court re-instating Dr. Peter Obi as the Governor of Anambra State.
The Interpretation of the Supreme Court on tenure of elected officials is an indication that our democracy has solid inbuilt mechanisms to resolve all disputes whenever and wherever they arise. We therefore urge all citizens especially those in Anambra State to remain law abiding at all times and rekindle their faith in the nation’s judiciary.
While we accept the ruling of the apex court in its entirety, we wish to once again reiterate the need for the amendment of the 1999 constitution and the need for electoral reforms that would syncronise the tenure of all elected officers in the country.
The amendment of the constitution would further boost the confidence of the citizenry in the Nigerian State, resolve all noticeable grey areas and deepen our democracy.
We advise all other elected party members that are not affected by this ruling to continue discharging their responsibilities selflessly to the greater benefit of all citizens of Anambra State. Development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace, law and order.
